RAveling
Raveling was a duo exhibition by María Villaseñor-Marchal and James Hosking, curated by Vasia Rigou, presented at the Chicago Artists Coalition from April 28 to June 8, 2023. Developed during the artists’ 2022–2023 HATCH residency, the exhibition brought together Hosking’s photographic and collage-based works with Villaseñor-Marchal’s felted, woven, beaded, and embroidered textiles.
Spanning intimate to monumental scales, Raveling explored dualities of image and material, past and present, construction and unraveling. Through bold color, unexpected textures, and everyday references, the works emphasized tactility, labor, and fragmentation, inviting introspection and positioning raveling as an ongoing, generative process.
